Felicia’s Approach

For over 26 years, Felicia has helped parties resolve complex legal and business disputes through public court proceedings and private mediation sessions and arbitration proceedings. Through the years, Felicia has been a trusted advisor in some of her clients’ toughest personal and professional times. That experience helps Felicia to appreciate the tightropes that are sometimes presented to parties who want to deescalate, avoid, or resolve conflict while staying mindful of litigation positions, should negotiations prove unsuccessful.

The experience also helps to shape Felicia’s role as a mediator. Through this experiential lens, Felicia helps parties consider, evaluate, and confidentially negotiate options for conflict and risk management and dispute resolution.

Felicia’s Prepared for Mediation

Felicia knows how important trust and rapport are in mediation and that the parties and lawyers are trusting her to assist them in resolving a conflict that they may have invested thousands of dollars and years of their lives into.

In any mediation, the mediator is the person who has the least exposure to the facts, the parties, and the underlying source of the conflict. So, in addition to reviewing materials provided before the mediation session, Felicia schedules time to talk with the parties and/or the lawyers to better understand the case, build rapport, and reinforce her commitment to earning their trust.

Felicia’s Role

During mediation, the parties are in control and are the only decision-makers in the room are the parties. The only advocates in the room are the parties’ respective counsel. While Felicia is an experienced negotiator and litigator, she is keenly aware that her role during mediation is neither that of a lawyer nor decisionmaker; rather, she’s a facilitator.

Felicia is committed to doing her pre-mediation homework, and arrives to each mediation session ready to get to work. Her only request is that the parties prepare themselves too, that they trust the process, and arrive ready to confidentially, creatively, and in good faith explore their respective opportunities for resolution.
